Q & A with Lindsey LaBore

Posted by on 8:58 am in Food | 0 comments

Okay, friends. Lucky us! I’ve been asking Lindsey the big Qs for the last few weeks, and now we all get to read the gold in full. If you’ve hopped on a bike in one of Lindsey’s cycling classes at Torque, you know she’s not messing around. Hello, did she just say this was the warm-up??! Her passion for cycling is catchy (and so is her humor) and before you know it you are giving her a mile, or 15, without complaint. I can’t wait for you to be inspired by her story and encouraged in your own. Thanks, Lindsey! Q: Describe your...

What’s in your lunch box? Part 2

Today’s post and answer to “What’s in your lunchbox?” is from by our awesome trainer and cycle instructor, Brianna, who ALSO happens to be a mother and lunch maker. 😉  Here’s her scoop on how to keep lunch healthy, easy, and fun! Eating clean is a daily priority for me and my almost-four-year-old little boy, Tye. My 100-pound weight-loss journey began around the same time Tye started eating solid foods – so since the very beginning, I have made it a priority to teach him about nutrition. We talk about how...

dark chocolate date nut energy bites

Last Saturday was the perfect rainy stay in the kitchen kind of day. It was made for experiments like these.  I’ve long been curious about sweetening food with Medjool dates but replacements for sugar rarely work for me.   Visually, these desserts were as adorable as the recipe picture and they did look appealing – a feat healthy food does not always accomplish. Tastewise? The crust was a nuttier version of a Lara bar, which I had hoped for. My daughter summed it up best when she said, “I like the crust a lot but I just...

Team Burgoon Q & A with Tiffany Capouch

Posted by on 9:24 pm in Food | 0 comments

Two weeks in a row you get to hear from someone on our team! Know these shoes? If not, let me introduce you to our friend, Tiffany Ann Capouch (Capouch pronounced Sa-Pooo). The first time I met Tiffany was not at the gym but over email, and while this amazing smile was not on the computer, her enthusiasm and kindness jumped off the screen in response to a question. I thought to myself, of course Dawn told me about her, she is this place. Tiffany’s inclusive spirit and welcoming way is a huge asset to us at Bodies by Burgoon, and if you...

Q & A with Aldon Tibbs

Hey everyone! Drum roll please. I’ve been waiting and you’ve been waiting, to hear what this guy has to say. Am I right? If you were a fly on the wall here, you would quickly observe that everybody loves Raymond, I mean Aldon. Whether or not he’s making movie suggestions or sharing his subtle tips and tricks, when Aldon speaks we listen. (Not sure if he realizes this, but it’s true.) Well lucky us, he has spoken. One thing I love about this Q & A is that Aldon proves he is always learning. From the time we first...

Q & A with Dawn Bryant

Today we are talking with the one and only, Dawn Bryant. If you’ve been around here (or lurking on social media!), you know the highs and lows Dawn openly shares from her life. Yes, she lost a lot of weight in 2012, a remarkable amount of weight, but this is not what defines the totality of her life. While her weight loss journey was perhaps the path to finding a stronger version of herself, the beauty of her story then, and the story she continues to live and tell about, might be her great capacity and unending efforts to give away every...

Q & A with Brianna Bernard

Today we are starting a new Q & A series of posts to share personal truths and tips from individuals in our community here at Bodies by Burgoon. Every single person who walks in this gym has a story that lead them to this place and a story that isn’t over. It takes less than a minute of talking to Brianna to notice how kind she is and to yes, observe how stinking strong she is. In her own words below, she is stronger physically, emotionally, and mentally and now knows she can do hard things. Read on for more on what a day in her...

Success Story: Brianna Bernard, a new mom now 50 pounds lighter and stronger in EVERY way

Posted by on 2:01 pm in Success Stories | 0 comments

On October 27th, 2012, I became a mom to a sweet little boy named Tye. Throughout my pregnancy I gained a total of 70 pounds, and the week Tye was born I weighed 235. At the time I wasn’t overly concerned about all of the weight I had gained because I was positive it would come off quickly after the baby was born. And when Tye finally arrived, like most new moms, I was entirely too overwhelmed and busy with feedings and diaper changes to care about what I looked like! Before I knew it, Tye was turning ONE! I hadn’t exercised or watched...

Success Story: Dawn Bryant, 130 pounds lighter after one year and defining STRONG

Posted by on 12:45 pm in Success Stories, Video | 0 comments

I never went looking for a trainer…or a gym. Let alone a family. But that’s what I found. And it was the most profound change of my life. I knew I needed to do something about the 266 pounds I was carrying around. I thought about it every moment. No one would know that, because people don’t like to admit that stuff. I pretended it was a non-issue. I purposefully over-emphasized my strengths so people (including myself) would forget that I was heavy…so that they’d only see my heart and passion. It wasn’t that...

Success Story: Laurie Falz

Somewhere around April/May of 2011, I woke up and discovered the following things: a) I was 45 years old b) I could see 190 pounds from where I lay sprawled on the couch c) If my life depended on me running around the block I was as good as dead. I am so fortunate to have a friend (Hi Jill!) who was both sympathetic about the weight – she had had a little one about a year earlier – and was sick of listening to me complain about my lack of fitness and how I could not bear to buy the next size up (16s). So we decided to do something about it...

Prep it like Christine!

Here we are with Volume 3 – Prep it like Christine! Check out Prep it like Tiffany and Prep it like Meg if you haven’t already. From the beginning of my time writing here in early 2016, Christine joined a couple #sundaysetup sessions in my home that were so helpful for me to learn what this Team Burgoon community was doing with food prep and what might be helpful to share with the rest of you!  You’ve seen Christine show up many times with ideas and inspiration, like her Crockpot Apple Sauce! And her Asian Quinoa Salad, which...

Diane’s Paleo Meatloaf

Never say never. I resist when it comes to buying kitchen appliances or extra gadgets, mostly due to space and lack of desire to store unnecessary things. But I’ve been watching some of you make food “instantly” for some time now, and I respect a good shortcut for sure. So, I borrowed my friend Betsy’s Instant Pot last weekend! 👌 Diane’s been posting some consistent #teamburgooneats pictures and recently she told me her Instant Pot meatloaf recipe turned out super delicious and velvety. (She might have had me at meatloaf but...

Prep it like Meg

Here we are with Volume 2 of our 2017 Meal Prepping Tour! Did you see our Volume 1 with Prep it like Tiffany? If you have #goals with Meal Prepping it’s most likely been inspired by watching Meg and Tiffany!  Meg rocks the weekly prep on a consistent basis. If you follow her on Facebook or Instagram you will see all of this, in your hungry face, almost weekly: Perhaps the best part of this meal prepping story is that 3 years ago Meg stuck to the microwave and says her cooking skills included burning the instant mac and cheese. In an effort...

Prep it like Tiffany

As promised, we are going to talk about meal prepping, #sundaysetup, and all the ways Team Burgoon gets it done! Whatever your style becomes, grab the recipes, links, and whatever fits for you to try and make your own. For volume 1 of our 2017 Meal Prepping Tour, I popped in on Tiffany’s latest #sundaysetup session! Tiffany nonchalantly mentioned she was hosting a party 2 hours from the time I showed up and her kitchen was buzzing with her meal prepping! This tells you a) that meal prepping can fit into daily life and doesn’t need a...

cauliflower pizza crust

Like Rachel said last week on the Bodies by Burgoon Run Club page, there are assumptions about weight lifters, runners, cyclers, and I’m adding meal preppers to the list. Meal preppers come in all shapes and sizes, like EVERYTHING and EVERYONE. Beyond the conversation of eating healthy, preparing for a week when it comes to what you eat is something that has a lot of rewards, like staying sane, my #1 goal, and my close 2nd, staying fueled so I can execute the day-to-day without all the last minute decisions of “What are we going to eat?”...

Team Burgoon Q & A with Heather Petri

I’ve heard Heather say that being strong is showing up as you are, in the moment. These are not just words, this is what Heather lives and what she invites. If you’ve crossed Heather’s path here between punches, planks, or heard her at the end of the room lifting heavy things, you know she keeps it real and she leads the cheering squad in whatever area she’s in. Thanks for letting me dig into your story, Heather! ❤️ Here she is! Workout at BBB start date: 2-18-2014 Is working out and being active something you had as a part of your...

Team Burgoon Eats Snacks

We can probably agree by now that the days of eating and thinking “fat-free” as the healthiest way, are gone. Good thing because it all tasted like cardboard. Good fats are needed in our diet to help our bodies maintain satiety, absorb vitamins and minerals from our all our food, and help our cells repair, especially if you are moving and lifting, friends! I like to prep parts and pieces for my week, and toasting nuts are usually on my weekly to-do list. We add them to salads, to breakfast hash or oats, and for daily snacks. Like...

Beef, Black Bean, and Tomato Taco Filling

I worked out with someone this week (SHE shall not be named!) who asked Aldon what football game he was talking about and what halftime show this was with Lady Gaga in it! 😂 I equally love that we moved right on to jump squats since no one needs to convince anyone to like something around here, right? Except for ONE THING. TACOS. In all seriousness, is there someone out there that doesn’t like tacos? I actually want to meet you and just ask why that’s all. I just want to understand. We can be different, it’s ok. In my...

Team Burgoon Eats Pancakes

Apparently, Team Burgoon eats pancakes, at least after those weekend workouts!  The good news is, no matter what kind of pancakes you want, you pretty much can find a recipe for them. Want a protein or paleo option? Gluten free anyone? Here are a few eats from our crowd: 1. Protein Banana Pancakes from Tiffany! If you have eggs, a banana, and protein powder on hand, this might be your breakfast plate by morning. While Tiffany is quick to claim these are not her grandma’s made-from-scratch buttermilk pancakes, 😂 she says they are a...
